This is a white / orange wine from Slovenia made from Pinot Blanc and aged in qvevri. The winemaker is Jean-Michel Morel, a Frenchman who has moved to Slovenia. The vineyards here are located all around the shared border of Italy and Slovenia in what used to be one country called Friuli, half which is now an Italian state carrying that name. Half of the time Jean-Michel has to cross borders to reach his grapes.
This wine is one I could drink every week, the skin contact and qvevri adding complexity to a perfectly balanced wine. Made from Ribolla Gialla, for which Rebula is the local name. This is great with fish, light meats or creamy Italian dinners. A great entry into the wines of Friuli.
